AFC Corinthians was formed in 1994 by brothers Steve and Gary Bishop, along with a group of friends including current players Ben Charters and Chris Long, and current manager Matthew Charters. The team at that stage played at Linear Park in Calcot, and played in The TVC Football League on a Saturday.
After a few years finding their feet, the Corinthians had established themselves as a solid mid-table team, at which point John Witts took over as manager of the side following Steve Bishop’s move to Argentina. John again solidified the side, before current manager Matthew Charters took over the reins in 1998.
The first season of the new regime saw some changes in personnel following retirements and new signings, but was a platform for three back to back league wins in the 1999-00, 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons, the final of these coming as part of a league and cup double.
At this stage the decision was taken to move the club into the more competitive and renowned Reading Saturday League, whilst leaving a reserve team in the TVC Football League, and the 2002-03 season saw the Corinthians move into the league’s Division 4. A mixed season saw the side finish 3rd, securing promotion in their first season, and this result was repeated in the following three seasons, seeing Corinthians currently playing in the Reading Football League Premier Division. The Club’s first silverware in the league came in 2006 when the club won the Berkshire Trophy Centre Intermediate Cup at Reading Town’s ground.
